August 7th Warped Tour, Virginia Beach

This was a kickass show! It started out slow because the huge crowd of us had to wait for the band on the local stage to finish in order for them to go on. Props to TSL for being polite! Their first song, which was quite a hit, was "Up and Go". It helped to get the crowd pumped and ready to get down. Ken talked for a little bit after the song was finished, saying how grateful he was to be there doing what he loved most. Which is no wonder they broke into "Given the Chance" directly after.
"Saddest Girl Story" came next and the crowd sang along as all four did a great job of keeping us psyched. After the song was over, Ken said to us that the next song was currently up on mp3.com and that we should all check it out and launched into a very heartfelt rendition of "The Best of Me". With his eyes closed, singing the beginning chorus, the crowd felt the emotion through his words. Not to mention, this is my favorite TSL song.
"Left Coast Envy" was next and naturally, it was totally awesome. Then, after a steady chant for "Cheek to Cheek" Ken said that they would go ahead and play it, making the crowd cheer even louder than before. Finally, Ken brought out a friend of his, Ian from NFG to play bass on the song "Leaving" and performed with microphone in hand. Meanwhile, Matt, Tom and Mike are doing their best to keep the feeling strong. Halfway through "Leaving" Ken jumped into the crowd and sang directly to us all as we pawed at him to hold him up. Ian was a great added asset to the band, giving his own style of stage-performing. The song ended, the set ended and we all left completely happy and excited for the great upcoming band of The Starting Line.
Directly after the set, Ken walked off of the stage to a fenced in-type-area to take pictures, sign autographs and have a little one-on-one with the fans. Naturally, I'm waiting with my camera and close to tears. Ken comes over and shakes my hand, asking how I am and chatting and taking a picture with me. He seemed a little flattered I was teary-eyed but I really couldn't help it...and we were wearing the same thing!! He and I both had on an Atticus shirt and identical shell necklaces. It was exciting...he signed my ticket and we said farewell although I was still in complete awe.
Overall, the show was mindblowing and they sounded more than solid on stage. Can't wait till the next show...

Before the show went on I only knew of one TSL song and that was the cover of "I'm Real" on the PUNK GOES POP CD. I went to check them out at about 3:30 and I was simply amazed at how nasty their set was. After the first song, Ken said that he was nervous because there were so many kids at the stage and they only played Boston one time prior to the Suffolk Downs show.
They put together an unbelievable set by playing "Up & Go", "I'm Real", "Cheek to Cheek", "Given The Chance", "The Best Of Me", "Decisions, Decisions", and ending with "Leaving".Throughout the entire set, kids were singing along and having a good time breaking down to the music. The Starting Line is now one of my favorite bands and I want to say they do one hell of a live show....-- Matt, MA
